Identification of Hazardous Objects

HomeUNDERWATER WORKSSAPPER SERVICESIdentification of Hazardous Objects

Many areas of the world’s marine environment have been contaminated by UXO as a result of long-standing conflicts, warfare or the dumping of munitions at sea. This – paradoxical as it may sound – has contributed over the years to the development of appropriate survey instrumentation, whether in terms of hardware, software or industry practices, to safely detect potential threats.

FERROMAGNETIC SURVEYS IN HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENTS

The detection and clearance of unexploded ordnance in the underwater environment is a difficult and life-threatening operation, requiring qualified and experienced personnel, supported by appropriate – tried and tested equipment. UXO Marine’s team of specialists is one of the few teams in Poland that performs ferromagnetic surveys using state-of-the-art equipment, such as:

CAESIUM MAGNETMETERS GEOMETRICS G-882

Marine survey probes for the detection of ferromagnetic objects
and UXO (potentially hazardous military) objects.

SENSYS FLUXGATE MAGNETOMETERS

Compact and powerful triaxial sensors for making precise measurements of static and alternating magnetic fields.

IDENTIFICATION OF HAZARDOUS OBJECTS

Additionally, depending on the environment and depth of UXO objects and the scope of the order (high seas, nearshore, marinas, ports, river-land areas), UXO Marine S.A. uses several independent measuring systems, such as:

SCANFISH ROTV

Eiva's ScanFish Katria towed system in a gradient arrangement with 4 Geometrics G-882 magnetometers.

TVG KIT

TVG towed system from Geometrics in a gradient arrangement with 2 G-882 caesium magnetometers.

PUSH PLATFORM SYSTEM

Push platform with dynamic lowering system for quayside and shallow water areas with 2 Geometrics G882 magnetometers.

ROV VEHICLE WITH USBL AND MAGNETOMETERS

Remote controlled underwater ROV with USBL positioning system or geocompass and 4 fluxgate magnetometers mounted on frame.

SURVEY BOAT ASV-L

Autonomous ASV-L boat with frame-mounted fluxgate magnetometers for shallow areas.

MAGDRONE R3 AERIAL SYSTEM

Magdrone R3 aerial magnetometry system with two fluxgate type measuring probes.

And other underwater detection equipment, SSS/MBES systems for bottom imaging, depth of repose determination.

MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS AND SAPPER EXPERIENCE

Many years of experience of our staff (gained both in UXO Marine, as well as in the course of cooperation with other entities, including foreign ones), participation in executive consortia, international conferences and trainings with manufacturers of measurement equipment and software suppliers translate into professionalism and reliability of conducted surveys. Ferromagnetic surveys are performed on the basis of precise measurement procedures arising from the QHSE standards and policy.

Final, before the effect of work is transferred to the Client, the measurement results from ferromagnetic probes are processed and interpreted by an experienced team of geophysicists, using the Oasis Montaje / Magpick and Sensys software, and also based on own databases of hazardous objects.

This often allows us to provide object parameters such as size, depth and exact position. This work, despite the software used, is often “manual work”, during which the geophysicist checks and evaluates each individual anomaly.
